COLLOQUIAL ARABIC

Spoken Levantine Arabic

Let’s get started! In this course, you will be introduced to the Arabic language. We will set the foundation for proper pronunciation and learn key vocabulary. Essentially, you will learn the basics of how to navigate your way in an Arabic-speaking society, including: greeting others, introducing yourself, asking for directions, finding your way around town in a taxi.

BEGINNER

For those with little to no knowledge of the language

In this course, we will go a step further and elaborate on your ability to express yourself. By learning more about past and future tenses and learning more elaborate vocabulary, you will progress from stating facts to expressing your preferences and describing your daily routine in more detail, for example.

For those who have had exposure to the language and can form basic sentences, including asking and answering simple questions

In beginner and intermediate lessons, we focus on the most urgent topics needed for navigating society. Now, the advanced course will really take your skills to the next level! You will be able to delve into topics beyond your daily routine, such as discussing culture and expanding your vocabulary to become a more nuanced conversationalist.

MODERN STANDARD ARABIC (MSA)

Reading + Writing of Formal Arabic

Since MSA is more focused on including the formal written language, we will start by learning the alphabet and establishing proper pronunciation. Key grammar principles will be covered, as these are linked to proper diction and will set you on the path of success for future language learning. We will use these components in order to be able to formulate and write basic sentences that include introducing and talking about yourself.

BEGINNER

For those who are seeking to learn the foundational grammar and pronunciation of the Arabic language

Now we will take our basic grammar and vocabulary to the next level by applying them dynamically in writing exercises. We will incorporate learning of the tenses and additional vocabulary to support your ability to express yourself in more detail.

INTERMEDIATE

For those who have a basic command of grammar topics and want to progress to the point of reading and writing short texts

This course will take the language skills you have previously gained and will be dedicated to dealing with more complex topics through reading and writing. A sample class may involve reading a newspaper clipping and summarizing it in your own words. Alternatively, you may be assigned to watch a short video ahead of class and discuss it during our session.

For those who can read and write and are seeking to deal more extensively with formal media content (e.g. news articles, books)
